A Whole Lot of Nothing!
By David C. Daoust

Dakota didn’t really have a plan, not since she ditched her security detail on Dori 5 and hired a manned cargo ship to bring her to Twin Crown. She fully expected to find an Otomo Corp lab on this moon, only to find that the corporation only had a very small presence here. Considering Red Faction recently acquired the moon, she shouldn’t have been surprised; Red Faction did not support very many privately owned companies. It did not take her long to trace Otomo Corp activity to the small hotel in the ritzier area of the small port town, Grady.

Apparently they had a systems server set up in the penthouse, which meant the penthouse was where she needed to be. Any further documentation on the Black Lung Infection would be there, any further proof that is. She decided the easiest way to get up there, was to just be herself. She was, after all, a highly paid employee of Otomo Corp.

The ugly woman at the desk however, seemed to delight at the prospect denying her access. Dakota was frustrated beyond reason! Why would she not be on the registry? Why would she be denied access, she should have access to everything, the company was practically hers! Ok, that was an exaggeration, but still!

The frustration cast aside when the small dark haired girl approached her outside of the hotel. She was sure she recognized this girl as Elma Parks, the famous child actress… the star of many of her favorite movies.

Dakota watched in amazement as the small girl, that was actually a bot named Margo, scaled the side of the hotel.

Dakota couldn’t believe how convenient this was. The Doctor just had to stand around and wait while her favorite movie star did her breaking and entering for her.

Life was weird sometimes, she guessed.

She watched as the young girl pried-open the window, Dakota found she was suddenly nervous, she’d never really done anything like this. It wasn’t like she lied to the girl, she thought. Really, Margo just assumed a lot, granted the small bot used the lies Dakota was ranting to the hotel clerk to reach her conclusions…

No sooner had the bot ducked inside, than the pit formed inside the good doctors stomach. Time seemed to slow and the minutes felt like hours. What was taking her so long? Dakota was unsure what to do, she started to think this was a horrible idea, though did not want to leave the small girl to the consequences. At the same time she knew she could not help her from down here. No sooner had she decided to go scream at the hotel clerk again, in the hopes of gaining access to the room, than a dark haired man came running around the corner.

Dakota recognized him immediately from the lobby; He was the guy that had accompanied her little burglar. The guilt on her face must have been apparent, as the man suddenly stopped his search, and gave her a side-long look. Before he could say a word though, there was loud crash of breaking glass from above, and then the small form of Margo came falling ten stories back down to the street!

Dakota took a moment to wrap her head around what she was looking at, the small girl that had just dropped from amazing heights, seemed perfectly healthy. In fact, she had kind of a goofy grin on her face as she lay on her back holding the Holo-pads high in the air victoriously!

All of which would be great, if it wasn’t for the security force shouting from the now broken window.

“Er… looks like they might have spotted me…” Margo said as Dakota helped Margo to her feet, it was clear the security team was shouting orders into a comm’.

“What the hell?” the dark haired man asked, confused.

“Um,” was all Dakota got out as two more security guards in black suits suddenly raced around the opposite corner of the building, “Run!”

The three did just that, though did not make it far. Even more goons in black suits came from the other side… blocking their way!

“What the hell??” the dark haired man asked again, as the three were taken into custody.
