“But Dave, didn’t you already post this comic?” Yeah, but it bears repeating, especially since the content of ‘aWLoN!’ is currently buried in the Right, I kind of feel like I should explain a little.
Simply, that, I really didn’t make any ‘good guys’ throughout the entire thing. I mean, even Margo is pretty much running around in a stolen ‘vehicle’ (and that’s before her swap with Vincent).
Also, that, when I say ‘there is no US in the Onion’, it’s not because of any dislike of the US or that I was trying to create some sort utopia without it. (Who wants to read about Utopia? Psht, I was playing star wars.) I’d say, I was trying to accentuate what is good about the US, by leaving it out!
I built ‘monster’ governments based on what I think they would look like, without the opposing parties struggle against!
Ultimately, showing what’s so great about the US!
Liberty. People need the liberty to do what is right for them, individually. The liberty to go right or left.
A worker should be able to join a union, but a worker should also be able to leave that union if it becomes corrupt. If the government is the union, then where the hell is he going to go? This is why I had to stop and say “Hey, I am not a communist.” Certainly doesn’t mean that I am against unions, two very different things in my opinion.
That worker should also have the liberty to keep what he earns, and/or to buy property with it; his son (or daughter) should also be able to inherit what he has earned. And if he wants, he should have the liberty to form his own business, and be able to pay what he wishes to those employees he is able to hire. This is why I had to stop and say “Hey, I am not a socialist.”
Liberty needs to be maintained despite the ongoing fight. You may never be a property owner, or an employer, but your kids may well be. And even if you are, you could lose it all. Then where will you be, at the mercy of what? An absent left; A dominant right? Everyone needs help sometime.
Currently, we are at the ‘Dominant Right’ with the Trade Consortium. Which I decided would be this, just fascist, ugly version of corporatism. So at this point I should probably say, “Hey, I am not a Fascist.” because I’m not. Admittedly, I already removed race as an issue throughout the Onion. But while fascism often includes racism, it can certainly exist without it- People should know that. In the Consortium, The top is made up by the rich, and those on the bottom, sans a left, go hungry or become criminals… the pirates.
So, anyway, the problem that I see having ‘aWLoN!’ nestled so firmly in the Right at the moment, is that it may look like I defunct the Left, and now I’m saying the Right is the way to go.
But I don’t think it is.
I think it is about the balance of both, that keeps ‘Liberty for All’.
